Vacation pay is calculated taking into account calendar days, and wages are calculated only for working days. It’s better to go on vacation on Monday and come back on Friday. In this situation, your 2-week vacation will be extended to include a weekend. This way you will be able to save a couple of days for the future, but they do not count towards this vacation.

General provisions

By law, an employee has the right to claim the first paid vacation pay after working 6 months .

The duration of such leave reaches 28 calendar days . You can take them whole, or in parts, one of which must be taken for at least 14 days. You can use the remaining days at your own discretion and in any amount, based on your need for rest.

Chapter 19 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation regulates the relationship between employee and employer in terms of vacations.

The HR department and accounting department do not like it when the vacation period is highly fragmented , since the turnover of documents increases several times. Although an employee has every right to go on vacation several times for a small number of days.

Return from Paradise

It turned out that a quarter of employees of Russian companies have difficulty returning to work after vacation, some even fall into severe depression. Representatives of science, banks, administrative personnel, as well as workers in the raw materials sector have the most difficulty returning from leave. 60% of employees exposed to post-vacation stress try to cope with nervous tension on their own, every fourth seeks to immediately immerse themselves in work, but 16% begin planning their next vacation on the very first working day. The depressed mood of employees persists, on average, throughout the entire first working week. But in most cases, this does not affect productivity - 56% of respondents note an increase in work efficiency after a vacation.

“The speed of returning to a normal working rhythm depends on the length of the vacation,” says Lyudmila Chernyakova, development director of the Unity recruitment agency. — For example, in many public and some private companies it is customary to take a month off at a time. A long vacation has a beneficial effect on the body: a person has time to completely relax, change the rhythm of life, and disconnect from the load. However, returning to work in this case will be much more difficult and longer than after a short rest.

“But today in most companies it is not customary to give vacations longer than two weeks,” recalls Lyudmila Zimina, general director of the Aspect recruitment agency. — Vacations are usually divided into two parts. Together with two vacation periods - in January and May - it turns out that we vacation four times a year for a week or two. Many Western companies that have their representative offices in our country continue to work according to the labor regime of their countries, believing that we have too many holidays. For most companies, especially in the non-production sector, short vacations are justified: over a longer period you can lose clients, you cannot abandon many deals for a long time, etc. And in production there is now a shortage of qualified personnel, so long vacations are not encouraged.

But how can you quickly return to the rhythm of work without falling into a post-vacation crisis?

“Managers should not expect an employee to perform great feats of work immediately after returning from vacation—inflated expectations themselves provoke stress,” advises Lyudmila Chernyakova. — It is better to provide for several days of adaptation, during which he can perform less energy-intensive types of work. For example, doing analytics instead of continuous meetings with clients. After all, a decrease in activity after rest is not some whim of the employee; it can also be caused by objective reasons: acclimatization, change of time zones, regime, etc.

“To quickly get back to work, you shouldn’t plan big things in the first days after your vacation,” advises business coach Marina Repik. — Sort out your mail, go back to the diary entries you kept before your vacation, put things in order on your desktop and computer. Small, monotonous tasks quickly adapt you to the realities of the work week. Set your priority tasks and try to complete them at a calm pace, without pushing yourself. And you won’t notice how in two or three days you will return to your usual rhythm.

Which months are the best to take?

If you want to get good cash payments, then take a vacation that starts on Saturday and ends on Sunday : weekends are added to the calculation of vacation pay.

With loyal company management, employees can go on vacation for 4 weeks in a row . Use this opportunity if your employer allows you to take the entire vacation.

However, it is worth remembering: when going on vacation, you will be provided with funds for its entire duration , and in the future you can only count on payment for the number of days actually worked, which in this case is approximately several days.

Number of working days in 2020:

Vacation in 2020 – when is it profitable to take days {q}

When planning a vacation, you need to choose exactly the option that is most important to you, because... It is quite difficult to profit from several of them at the same time.

Let's look at each option in order.

When drawing up vacation schedules for the 20th year, most Russians try to take into account the material component, namely

We invite you to read: Maternity capital for a second child in 2020: amount, what documents are needed, how to apply

. In this case, in addition to vacation pay, you can also count on a certain amount of wages.

The most profitable months of 2020 for annual paid leave are July and December. They contain 23 working days.

Next in terms of monetary benefit are: April, September and October (22 working days).

Previously, we wrote how many working days are contained in each month of 2020>>

In some constituent entities of the Russian Federation there are “local” non-working days, which, if they coincide with annual paid leave, extend it. Regional dates should also be taken into account when choosing a vacation period for the next year.

If the financial component is not important, and the goal is to relax longer, then you should plan your vacation closely or overlapping with public holidays - official non-working days in 2020.

For example, you will be able to rest the longest if you go on vacation immediately after the end of the New Year holidays - for 28 days from January 9, 2020 to February 5, 2020. In this case, the total vacation will last 36 days.

If winter holidays do not appeal to you, then your vacation can be combined with the May holidays, or Russia Day (celebrated on June 12), or other long holiday periods.

As a general rule, after being hired for a new job, an employee has the right to take leave after 6 months of continuous work (Article 122 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation). True, this rule does not apply to some workers, for example, persons under the age of 18. Based on a written application from such an employee, he should be granted leave, even if he has not yet worked for six months in the organization.

On September 29, 2020, the State Duma of the Russian Federation decided to remind when it is more profitable to take a vacation in 2020 in terms of money.

If an employee is only interested in the amount of cash payment, then he needs to:

  • take vacations in months with the largest number of working days;
  • include weekends in your vacation.

We suggest you read: Prenatal leave from which week

The above rule works if you compare the employee's vacation period with his earnings. Indeed, the cost of a working day in each month is different, because... the salary is divided by the number of working days. The most expensive days in 2020 are January and May (17 working days each). The cheapest days in 2020 are July and December (23 working days each). Accordingly, in terms of money, it is best to take a vacation in December or July.

Previously, workaholics actively took advantage of this - they took leave on Saturday and Sunday. There was no additional rest, but they received money. This practice has been banned since 2020. The Ministry of Labor published an official letter dated December 7, 2018 No. 14-2/OOG-9754, in which it indicated that providing leave only on weekends does not comply with the requirements of labor legislation.

The above method of choosing when to take days off is only suitable for those employees who think exclusively about material gain. The fact of vacation itself does not interest them. If an employee wants to have a good rest and not lose money, then he should not always pursue vacation on weekends.

Vacation pay is calculated from average earnings the year before going on vacation. If during the specified period the employee was not on sick leave, on annual leave or at his own expense, then the amount of vacation pay will be maximum. Otherwise, a reduction factor is applied. Therefore, it is also necessary to take this point into account. Otherwise, just choosing a month for vacation will not be entirely profitable.

If an employee works well and does not miss work days, then in 2020 it will be the most profitable in terms of money to take a vacation in the summer in July, or a vacation before the holidays in December.

May and holidays

From the point of view of duration, it is quite convenient to go on vacation in May, but for a short period . You can take about 4-5 days.

You can apply for working days that fall from May 1 to May 9, take into account the postponement of the day off, and you will be given approximately 10-11 vacation days. You can use this method on other holidays, adding it to long weekends.

The least profitable months for vacations in monetary terms are January and May. The number of working days in these months is minimal, but salaries are paid in full, so it is not profitable to rest during this time.

Why it is not profitable to take a vacation in January or May:

  • Your salary reaches 30,000 rubles.
  • In January (May) you will need to work 17 days (20 in May), and the price of one working day is 1,764.7 rubles (1,500) .
  • At the same time, 1023.8 rubles are accrued for any day of vacation .

Let's count

When is the best time to take a vacation? Salary and vacation pay are calculated differently. This is why there are months when, by going on vacation, you will get more money in your hands than if you worked all the time. And there is - when it’s the other way around.

In 2020, the most profitable months for vacation are July and December. And the most unfavorable months are January and May (this is almost always the case). How does this happen?

If you are planning a beach holiday in Russia in 2020, we recommend taking a vacation in July. Photo: pixabay.com

Firstly, you only receive your salary for working days. And vacation pay is for calendar days (minus holidays). That is, over the weekend too.

Secondly, the cost of your vacation day will be the same in both January and July (unless, of course, your salary remains the same and you were not on sick leave in between). But the cost of one working day varies depending on the month. In January it will be higher because there are fewer working days. In January 2020 there were only 17 of them. The same thing happened in May. But in July and December there are 23 working days in 2020.

Now let's count. Vacation pay is calculated based on average daily earnings. In 2020, it is calculated as follows: divide the income for the year by 12 months and divide by another 29.3 (the average number of days per month for 2020). Let’s say a person with a salary of 35 thousand goes on vacation for two weeks. If he had done this in January, he would have received 16,730 rubles for these days (1,195 rubles - the cost of a vacation day is multiplied by 14 calendar days). And if he worked the same days, then 20588.20 rubles (the cost of a working day in January is 2058.82 rubles - multiply by 10 working days, this is exactly how much it turns out minus two Saturdays and Sundays).

Now we're looking at July. Our employee will receive the same vacation pay for two weeks - 16,730 rubles. And if he worked hard, then in the same two weeks he earned 15,217.40 rubles. (the cost of a working day in July is 1,521.74 rubles). Well, of course, it's better to go on vacation!

Quite unfavorable months for vacation in 2020, except for January and May, are February (19 working days) and November (20 working days). In other months you can go for a walk - the difference in money will not be significant.

How to calculate vacation days

In order to calculate the days of vacation you are entitled to, it is not at all necessary to contact the HR department. You can totally do this yourself. To do this you need:

  • find out the exact day you started working (you can look at a copy of the employment contract or ask the HR department);
  • decide on the day to go on vacation;
  • count the number of months from the date of hiring to the date of the planned vacation.

For each full month of work you are credited with 2.33 days of annual leave. Thus, after working for 9 months (from February to September), you are entitled to 21 days of rest (2.33 days * 9 months).

Let's look at an example. 04/01/2019 Kramarenko S.P. got a job at Gladiator LLC. In October 2020, Kramarenko decided to go on vacation. During his time working at Gladiator, Kramarenko “accumulated” 14 days of vacation (2.33 days * 6 months).

When can you take a vacation?

Following the letter of the law, you can take a vacation only if you have worked at the company continuously for at least six months. That is, if you get a job in May 2020, you will be able to take a vacation no earlier than November.

In this case, you will “accumulate” 14 calendar days of vacation, which can be “taken” inseparably or divided. At the same time, you can “split” your vacation only on the condition that during the year you take “continuous” vacation - 14 days.

Let's look at an example. Kuleshov V.D. got a job at Zodiac LLC on June 1, 2019. He will be able to go on vacation no earlier than December 2019. For 2020, Kuleshov will be accrued 16 days of vacation (2.33 * 7 months), which he can use entirely or divide into 14 days and 2 days.

Don't take vacation in May and January

Rule one: in months in which there are many non-working holidays, the amount of vacation pay will be less. On the contrary, if there are many working days in a month, then more money will be credited. Why is this happening? The fact is that if there are many holidays in a month, then the “cost of a working day” increases. According to the Labor Code, non-working holidays are not included in the number of calendar days of vacation and are not paid, but they increase the duration of rest.

Thus, the most unfavorable months for vacation are May and January - there are many holidays and few working days. And the best time to rent is in July and August - no holidays, so the budget won’t suffer at all.

How to calculate additional vacation days

If you have a disability group or work in the field of education, then you have the right to receive additional leave. Also, “extended” leave is granted to civil servants, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, employees of the prosecutor’s office, etc.

In such cases, the vacation period for each category of citizens is determined by the relevant laws, in particular, the provisions of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation. For example, employees with disabilities have the right to rest for at least 30 days during the year. This means that for each month of work, such citizens are “credited” with 2.33 days and 2.5 days of vacation.

Let's look at an example. Shuvalov S.L. – storekeeper of LLC “Farmer”, disabled group III. Shuvalov got a job at Farmer in December 2020. In July, Shuvalov took leave for 14 calendar days (07/16/18 – 07/29/18).

During the period of work in “Farmer”, Shuvalov was accrued 17.5 days of vacation (2.5 days * 7 months, from December 2020 to June 2019), of which he used 14 in July (the balance is 3.5 days).

Vacation at your own expense

A citizen can take several (the maximum limit is defined only for civil servants - 1 year) days at his own expense. Such time off is provided only upon application and in agreement with the administration, except for the following cases:

  • WWII participants have the right to take an additional 35 calendar days off per year;
  • working age pensioners - 14;
  • working disabled people - 60;
  • parents and wives (husbands) of military personnel, firefighters, etc., killed in action - 14.

In addition, the manager is required to sign an application for 5 days at his own expense in the event of the birth of a child, registration of marriage, or death of a close relative.

How to count vacation days including weekends and holidays

If weekends fall within the period of your vacation, they are included in your vacation in the general manner and reduce the amount of annual vacation “accumulated” by you during the year.

If holidays fall during your vacation, your vacation is increased by the holidays, but the total period of accrued vacation does not decrease due to the holidays.

Let's look at an example. Gavrilenko E.D., driver of Trans Service LLC, went on vacation 2 times in 2020:

  • for 3 days (from 05/07/18 to 05/09/18);
  • for 14 days (from 06/11/18 to 06/24/18);
  • for 5 days (from 07/16/18 to 07/20/18).

When can I take my next vacation?

I learned from a friend of mine that his boss denied him leave, citing the fact that my friend had already gone on leave a month ago. Having turned to the legislation and talked with the personnel officer at my company, I found out that the actions of my friend’s boss were illegal!

If you were on vacation, for example, in May, this does not mean at all that you cannot relax in June. The days worked between the first and second vacation also do not matter. The main condition is that the period of work for vacation must be at least six months.

When the holiday is over

Unfortunately, all pleasant moments tend to end too quickly. Usually, already on the first day of work, a person again wants to rest. Then this vacation status would be suitable:

  • Was I on vacation? Or did I dream it all?
  • I want the 11 months to fly by faster. Then I will find myself in a fairy tale again!
  • I just started to come out of depression and have already returned to it again...
  • If I become president, the first thing I will do is extend everyone’s vacation!
  • Vacation, you will remain in my heart forever!

Memories of places visited and impressions received will help you continue to work successfully, achieve new heights, smile at everyone, and feel great.
