This word is borrowed from the English merchandiser and is essentially a neologism in the Russian language.

  • Ensuring extremely free movement of customers around the sales floor assigned to an employee, as well as the ability to select the necessary goods without the involvement of sellers or with minimal assistance from them (careful analysis of the display of goods, as well as full control over compliance with accepted standards).
  • Analysis of competition in the field of promotion of similar products.
  • Providing reports on the results of using various marketing tools, as well as careful control over the growth of product sales.

This list of responsibilities can be expanded or specified depending on what goals are set for the company or a specific store, as well as what company has a pricing, trade and assortment policy. In general, merchandising is a new direction in trade marketing.

Merchandisers (merchandising specialists) first appeared in Russia in the trade missions of foreign companies. The main function of these specialists was the display of goods (positioning of goods in retail outlets (space-management). Russian enterprises put a lot of other elements into the concept of “merchandising”.
