When recommendations can be ignored
It would be wrong to say that a recruiter should always collect references. They are undoubtedly useful, but not necessary in every case. Eg:
- You should not ask for references for absolutely all candidates. Collecting recommendations is one of the final stages of selection. When you have already talked with the applicant (perhaps more than once), when you are ready to make him an offer, but something still confuses you, recommendations can dispel your doubts.
